Interview with Adriana Kraft

Hi! Thanks so much for coming today. Tell us a little bit about yourself.

Adriana Kraft is the pen name under which my husband and I write erotic romance together. If that’s not romantic, I don’t know what is!
We’re published at Extasy Books, Whiskey Creek Press Torrid, Love You Divine, Logical Lust and Torquere (and you can find us at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and All Romance Ebooks). Our novels and short stories garner top reviews and are available in e-book and print. Genres include straight m/f, lesbian, bisexual, ménage and polyamory, with both contemporary and paranormal settings.
Here’s a thought – we hope you, our readers, will have as much fun reading our novels as we have writing them. We highly recommend sharing the sizzling fiction with a partner. It may take longer to finish the book, but we believe a good book is meant to be savored!

Tell us a bit about your book.

Ripening Passion celebrates so many things we care about! First off, the two main characters are Baby Boomers (like us). They love sex and champion some of the same causes we do – well, some of the similarity stops there. We’ve sure never performed on camera the way they do! Here’s the blurb:
Claire Johnson’s dedication to sex—the cornerstone of her career—led her to found the Center for Sexuality and Sex Practices. Now in her fifties, she knows the Center must keep pace with the rapidly growing Baby Boomer market, so she agrees to go back on camera for a series on sex and aging. But work with her nemesis?
Former English Professor Max Wilson has championed the cause of the Center ever since his deceased wife sought the Center’s help to rekindle the nearly extinguished sexual flames of their relationship. He loves working on camera and welcomes the challenge to perform with the svelte but feisty temptress.
Sparks fly immediately on and off camera. Can either Claire or Max transform those sparks into a fire of sexual desire for their viewers? And if they succeed, what will happen when the movie’s over?

Is this part of a series?

Yes – the first book in this series, Smoldering Passion, follows a young art student whose stipend has run out before she finishes her graduate program. She takes a job at a New York at a New York center that studies sexuality and creates educational sex videos. Claire and Max both show up in this first book and we knew pretty quick they’d need their own story. Two more books are planned in the series.

What did you find the hardest part of writing it to be?

I think for both of us, the hardest part is always the famous black moment. Characters have to have conflict to make the story hang together – but with two of us writing, sometimes the characters seem to invade us and create the conflict up close and personal, in our lives. We always hate that stage, when we feel like we’re living their black moment. Perhaps it’s no surprise that the characters often can’t work out their next steps until we recognize what’s going on and work out their (our) conflict. Gotta love making up, though!

What was your favorite part?

You probably thought I was going to cop to a sex scene! There are lots of those, and I do love them – but Max and Claire have a tender moment at sunset on the beach at Monterrey, just as they’re beginning to smooth the rough edges in their relationship. I put that up for a Six Sentence Sunday – here’s the LINK.

Rate your story in terms of steaminess

Off the Richter Scale! Seriously – our characters work at a Center that creates educational sex videos. On and off camera, there’s not much that doesn’t happen. Part of what they constantly have to sort out is the difference between hot sex and falling in love. Sometimes that’s a lot of fun

Boxers or Briefs?

Boxers, definitely. Claire, Max and my husband all agree J ~ much sexier, better care for the equipment, easier to connect with if something unexpected arises…

What is next for you?

Over at Extasy Books, our Swinging Games characters, Brett and Jen Andrews, keep coming up with new adventures and we’re scrambling to get them on the page and out to readers. Book Nine, Too Close for Comfort, is in final revisions and will be released sometime this spring at Extasy Books.
We’re working on a series based on Welsh/Celtic myth and lore. The series opens during the Roman occupation of the British Isles and spans nearly two thousand years – with the help of a little time travel, that is. A young woman in Wales is captured by a Roman soldier, separated from her infant daughter and taken to Rome, where she eventually gives birth to a son. She spends the next two millennia seeking to reunite her family. No publication date yet, but the series is contracted at Extasy Books.

What were your first impressions of each other?

Claire: Whoa! How far back in time do you want to go, here? I knew Max’s first wife long before I ever met him. She came to our Center seeking help to put the spark back in her relationship. So my first impression, through her eyes, wasn’t much! I never expected to like him, let alone fall in love with him, and I was pretty mean to him in the beginning.
Max: That’s very complex, as you may have guessed from what Claire just shared. After Phoebe died, I wanted to give something back to the Center that had given us such a lifeline, so I started volunteering. Claire kept her distance and I just figured that would never change – I admired and yearned from afar. Secretly I was thrilled when the Center Director threw us together to start making videos, but I know Claire was mad as hell!

What are your favorite parts about each other?

Claire: Now? I love his sense of humor, how comfortable he is with himself, his flair for being sexy and staying young at heart.
Max: What’s not to like? I’m so glad the Ice Queen finally melted enough to let me in her life.

What’s next for you?

We sure hope to hang around awhile for the next books in the series! Max’s granddaughter has the lead in Book Three, Inviting Passion, and Book Four has a cougar theme, among other things. We’ll be watching from the sidelines, that’s for sure!
